You
are viewing an original old unused c.1915 wire fly trap called "The
Outdoor Exterminator" or "Genuine Hodge Exterminator"
endorsed by Prof. Hodge with instructions.
This trap could be hung from a string or the back of a chair, mounted
to a trash can or window screen, or simply set on a flat surface.
It is in excellent original condition with no rust to be found. The
only damage is to the envelope. There is a flap tear and a stain where
the envelope sat against the wire in the frame. The trap measures
approx. 6" tall x 6" wide to the tip of the handle. The
"How to Trap the Deadly Fly" instructions measure approx.
5" x 7" when fully unfolded.
The
colorful, corked, amethyst fly trap above and at the far left are
typical of the late 1900 century.
The
trap at the near left is typical of the home-made variety. As with
home-made traps today, these traps were marginally effective.
This
century old fly trap demonstrates the effort made into making the
disgusting beautiful.
As the great
19th century American architect Louis Sullivan put it so aptly:
"Form follows function." And with that in mind FliesBeGone
is perhaps the most attractive fly trap available.
